What is Triage Law's Lean Lawyering philosophy?

The quality of legal advice/opinion has typically been measured by its length. Detailed memoranda, extensive citations, and exhaustive analysis have been seen as hallmarks of quality. But is that really true?

At Triage Law, we believe that the best legal advice is not the longest—it is the most useful. Our "Lean Lawyering" philosophy is based on the idea that legal advice should be concise, actionable, and focused on what truly matters to the client.

Lean Lawyering means:

  • Eliminating unnecessary complexity — We strip away the noise and focus on what is material.
  • Distilling complex legal analysis into clear recommendations — We provide one-page opinions that are built to be read by a founder or a board, not filed away unread.
  • Helping clients make better decisions faster — We identify the key legal issues and assess the risks that are truly material.

The philosophy draws inspiration from lean manufacturing and lean startup methodologies, which focus on eliminating waste and delivering value. In the legal context, waste includes unnecessary legal work, excessive documentation, and anything that does not directly serve the client's commercial objectives.

Lean Lawyering also means being transparent about costs and providing clear fee structures upfront. We don't believe in surprising clients with unexpected bills or billing for work that does not add value.

At its core, Lean Lawyering is about respecting the client's time, money, and commercial objectives. It is about being a strategic partner, not just a legal service provider.
